How to prepare your motorcycle for towing and get to a new destination safe and in one piece? Here is a list of motorcycle towing tips:

  • Check for damages: To prevent disputes of possible damage during shipment, make a report of any existing damage prior to pickup. You may also want to take dated pictures of your motorcycle.
  • Clean your motorcycle: It will be helpful to you and the driver when inspecting it before towing for any markings or damage.
  • Special instructions: Have a specific list with any problems your motorcycle may have. You carrier will want to know of such things during the loading and unloading of your motorcycle.
  • Accessibility: Make sure that both your pick up and drop off locations of your motorcycle are tractor-trailer accessible.
  • Alarm: If your motorcycle has an alarm, please disable it before towing.
  • Tires: Make sure that your tires are properly inflated and that you don't have any fluid leaks.
  • The Battery: Must be secure and the battery cables must be protected from causing an electrical short. Fluids must not be leaking.
  • Weight: Know the weight of your motorcycle to avoid over billing.
  • Gas Tank: It's always a good safety precaution to drain your gas tank and remove your battery. If you are towing your motorcycle in a crate, draining the gas tank is required.
  • Unlock the Steering: Make sure it is unlocked and remove the keys.
  • Mirrors: If possible, fold them all in.
  • Forks: Keep them unlocked.
  • Loose Items: Remove empty saddle bags, glove boxes, etc. These items will not be insured if they are included with your shipment.
  • Inventory Sheet: Maintain an inventory sheet signed by the motorcycle towing company.

I like the tip that you gave that during the shipment, you should inspect your car to identify problems. A couple of days ago, my daughter and I experienced an auto breakdown because of an engine problem, and it caused me too much hassle to think about what could be the best option to resolve it. I'm grateful for this enlightening article, I'll contact a trusted towing company in the future to ensure the proper process of resolving the issue.

Great tips for motorcycle towing! As a rider who frequently transports my bike, these steps are spot on. It's so important to secure everything properly and check those tie-downs multiple times. I've found that using dedicated motorcycle tie-down straps makes a world of difference in stability during transport. And documenting any pre-existing damage? Absolutely crucial for peace of mind. Thanks for sharing these tips—I'll be sure to keep them in mind on my next ride!
